## The OKC Sidewalk Repair Program: What It Covers

By OKC Driveway Repair Co. · October 16, 2026

[OKC Driveway Repair Co.](https://okcdrivewayrepairco.com/) works on driveways and aprons that cross Oklahoma City sidewalks, where the city’s cost-share program can change who pays for what. The OKC sidewalk repair program, formally the Sidewalk Repair and Replacement Program, splits the cost of qualifying sidewalk repairs **50/50** between the city and the property owner. Here’s what it covers and how it fits with driveway work.

### What the program does

Oklahoma City generally expects property owners to maintain the sidewalk in front of their property. The program lowers that cost by sharing it. According to the city’s program page, sidewalk panels qualify when they have **settled 1 inch or more** or have **cracks 1.5 inches or wider**, among the program’s criteria. The city then shares the cost of replacing those panels with the owner.

Rules, funding and application windows change, so check the city’s current program page before you plan around it.

### How it relates to your driveway

Three pieces meet at the street, and they’re treated differently:

- **The sidewalk** crossing your drive: the part the program is aimed at.
- **The apron or approach** between the sidewalk and the street: right-of-way work that needs a permit under OKC Code §50-116, generally maintained by the owner. See [who is responsible for the driveway apron](https://okcdrivewayrepairco.com/guide/who-is-responsible-for-the-driveway-apron/).
- **The driveway** on your lot: entirely the owner’s.

When a sidewalk panel and an apron are both failing, it often makes sense to coordinate them, so the new walk and the new apron meet at the right grades with a proper expansion joint between them. The city’s sidewalk standard (§50-103) calls for 4 inches of concrete on 2 inches of sand, 3,500 psi and ½-inch expansion joints.

### What to do

1. **Measure.** Check whether any sidewalk panel has settled an inch or more or has a crack 1.5 inches wide.
2. **Check the city’s page** for current eligibility and how to apply.
3. **Ask about timing** if you’re also planning apron or driveway work, so the pieces can be done in a sensible order.
4. **Keep the permit in mind.** Any approach work still needs a licensed contractor and a right-of-way permit under §50-117.
